Aids and Religious Practice in Africa
[ads-post]
This volume investigates how AIDS is comprehended, stood up to and lived with through religious thoughts and practices, and how these, thus, are reinterpreted and changed by the experience of AIDS. Analyzing the social generation, and efficiency, of AIDS – connecting substantial and otherworldly encounters, and religious, restorative, political and financial talks – the papers counter disentangled thoughts of causal impacts of AIDS on religion (or the other way around). Rather, they show individuals' cleverness in their battle to push forward despite difficulty. This relativises the vision of fate broadly connected with the African AIDS scourge; and it permits to see AIDS, rather than a particular occasion, as the summit of a century-long procedure of evolving vocations, substantial prosperity and profound imaginaries.
